Reaching out to Disaster-Affected Communities in Philippines

Months after Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines, the United Nations says millions of survivors still needs help

In an ongoing effort to get feedback and give out vital information out to affected communities in Central Philippines, the International Organization for Migration IOM, has launched an interactive live radio programme called Tindog Kita! which means Let’s Rise Together!.

The programme, produced in partnership with Tacloban-based station 98.7FM Radyo Abante, every Saturday  from 7 – 8 a.m.

Guests are invited on every episode of the show to discuss pressing issues including protection, shelter, health and sanitation and encourages listeners to text in with questions.

Daryl Dano, IOM's Communications with Communities (CwC) coordinator in Philippines believes there is a growing hunger among Haiyan survivors for access to information about the humanitarian response.

She adds that in the absence of reliable information, rumours spread like wildfire, creating anxiety and insecurity amongst communities.
